Photographer-Artist Larry Durfey .....

Larry Durfey

Larry now resides in Holmen, Wisconsin, but was born in Lake Geneva and grew up in Whitewater. He has a degree in Commercial Art from MATC, Madison.

His first job was that of a Creative Artist for Ray-O-Vac in Madison and worked with accounts such as Sears, K-Mart, Pulsar, Burlington Northern as well as many others. While there he received awards for layout and design, product design, display design, packaging, photography and developed 23 nationally known logos.

He moved to Green Lake, WI and worked for Fabrico, a manufacturer of cloth Advertising Specialties. He worked there for close to 18 years as an art director, then moved into R&D as well as Sales. He again received awards for catalog design, as well as winning 4 awards from PPAI for Most Creative New Products 4 years in a row. While there he designed over 400 new innovative products, at this time he is now at 539 new products that he has created.

He has had many positions since then, from Regional Sales Manager, National Sales Manager and V.P. of Sales for several companies in the Midwest. He has also worked as a consultant in many areas. Larry is known for his speaking abilities, doing 9 years in a seminar group called SASSY and was rated to be in the top 5 speakers in the Promotional Products Industry in the 1980's. Larry held the position of chair holder in Color Marketing International for 9 years, at that time making him one of the top color experts.

Now, he has developed a new process that combines both photography and art into one unique image. This process does NOT use any computer enhancement software such as Photoshop, Corel Draw or the like. The process is a chemical reaction, making every photo print different and unique. From close up these photo prints look like modern abstract art yet from a few feet away they revert back to what looks like a normal photograph. He uses the phrase Abstract-Realism to describe these results. To fully enjoy his photo prints, please view them from both close up (about two feet) and from a few feet away (ten or more feet).

His work is also on display at the Brent Douglas Art Gallery in Eau Claire, Witt Gallery in Menomonee, Elmaro Vineyards in Centerville and the Wildes Art Gallery in Tomah.
